Leo Lacrosse was established in March of 2018, Leo Lacrosse is a 501(c)3 non-profit, with the goal of this team is to grow the sport of lacrosse in the Leo area, and provide a high school club team to the students of Leo High School.
The Leo High School Club Lacrosse Team was founded by Coach / President Kyle Goehring during the early months of 2018, and officially incorporated on March 5th, 2018, in anticipation of gaining players interested in playing lacrosse for the Spring of 2019 season.
The first "Camp" which was open to Middle School and High School boys was held for free on September 30th, 2017 where only two 8th grade boys from a different school district showed up for more lacrosse instruction. Not to be too discouraged the next camp held in March of 2018 hosted six 8th grade boys who attended Leo Jr High.
Through sponsorships, fundraising, and the Goehring Family's pocket, advertisements were placed around town and more players started reaching out expressing interest in joining.
The team started off with practices once a week throughout the summer at Crossview Church, where Coach Kyle would borrow equipment from as many other laxrats as possible (and much of his 10+ year old collection of used gear) to lend to players who wanted to learn and play lacrosse. Thus, the team was taking shape and started to form. On November 10th, 2018 the team officially was voted in as a club member of the IHSLA. During the inaugural season, The Leo Lacrosse team was compromised of 15 players, 13 of which were Leo students, and 2 from Northrop. The team had a successful Pre-Season scrimmaging 2 area JV teams going 2-0, but as the regular season took place the team went 2-12. On April 18th, 2019 the Leo Lions won their first varsity game against Elkhart Memorial by a score of 16-2 at Trine University.
In 2021 Leo Lacrosse added a Girls High School Team to promote the growth and development of girls lacrosse in the Leo area.
